Placement conflicts are the main failure mode: the tool stamps your footer wherever you position it, including on top of existing footer text already baked into the pages. Scan the document first — if page numbers already exist, either skip them (start your range after those pages) or place yours in a different corner. For professional documents, match the body font size or one point smaller and keep bottom margins above 12mm so printers do not clip the footer. Range settings exist precisely for front matter: start numbering at page 3 with the cover and TOC excluded.
