PDF Forms: Filling Fields and Extracting Data (Honest Boundaries)
Updated 2026-09-19 · DocsAll Guides
Quick answer: The Form Filling tool does two things: fill existing interactive fields (text boxes, checkboxes, dropdowns) and extract submitted field data into text. Honest boundary: it operates on existing fields only — it cannot create or modify form fields. Open PDF Form Filling — everything runs locally in your browser, and files never leave your device.
Steps
- Filling: upload the form PDF; fields are detected automatically.
- Type, check, and select; download — values are written into the fields themselves.
- Extracting: upload a returned form; the tool reads all field values as structured text.
- Paste the extracted data into Excel or your system instead of transcribing by hand.
Important notes
- Legacy XFA dynamic forms have limited compatibility; scanned paper forms have no field layer at all.
- Creating new form fields or editing field definitions is not supported — a "form editor" claim would be false.
- Flattening (fixing values so they cannot change) is achieved by printing to PDF.
Common questions
Fields look empty after download Try Adobe Reader or a browser; persistently empty means a broken field layer — refill once.
Can I extract 100 forms in bulk? Single-file processing today; bulk extraction is under product evaluation.
