OCR Turns My Table Into a Mess: What Is Actually Possible
Updated 2026-09-19 · DocsAll Guides
Quick answer: Straight answer: DocsAll OCR outputs plain text — no table lines, cells, or row/column structure. Recognized text comes out in reading order and tables "flatten". That is the current product boundary, not a bug. Open PDF OCR — everything runs locally in your browser, and files never leave your device.
Steps
- Run the OCR to capture all text content.
- For small tables (under ~10 rows), rebuild in Excel/Word using the recognized text.
- For regular simple tables, convert the text to Word and use Text-to-Table by separator.
- For frequent table-heavy scans, use a dedicated table-recognition OCR product — DocsAll does not offer this today and will not pretend to.
Important notes
- Table OCR needs two things: reading the characters AND rebuilding the structure — general OCR engines only do the first.
- Number columns are the disaster zone: verify amounts and dates cell by cell.
- Process table pages separately from body text so the flattened output stays manageable.
Common questions
Will DocsAll support table recognition? It is under product evaluation; the current version does not — this page states the boundary honestly.
Some tools claim table OCR — why? They carry dedicated table models; test with your own scans before trusting marketing screenshots.
